Public Sector Employers are using a Variety of Methods to Tackle Pharmacy Costs, According to New Health Plan Analysis Now Available from HealthLeaders-InterStudy
December 20, 2011—Nashville, Tenn. —HealthLeaders-InterStudy, a leading provider of managed care market intelligence, reports that employers in the public sector in Texas are embracing innovative and value-based pharmacy benefits to reduce costs. Government employees in Texas continue to see cost shifting in their pharmacy benefits. More municipal, education and state employees are seeing value-base benefits for diabetes and penalties for maintenance drugs not ordered by mail, according to the
Texas Health Plan Analysis.
The Employee Texas Retirement System has instituted some incentives to divert maintenance drug users to mail order, according to the report. Members who use maintenance drugs must fill them by mail order or at a network of pharmacies available through HealthSelect that have agreed to fill 31 to 90 day drug supplies for the same cost share as members have for mail order prescriptions.
“These employer groups typically signal where the private market will head as costs continue to increase,” says Bill Melville, market analyst with HealthLeaders-InterStudy.
